POSITION MANDATE
The Director of Natural Resource Management (NRM) will play a transformational role in the company’s growth from a small business to a sustainable and innovative mid-size firm by harnessing the power of market-driven approaches and partnerships. They will drive business development efforts in all areas related to NRM, including climate change (mitigation and adaptation), water/sanitation/hygiene (WASH), fisheries, conservation, circularity, and energy, among others. They will also oversee technical excellence, quality control, and thought leadership in all areas in the NRM sector. The Director of NRM will play a pivotal role in identifying and capitalizing on synergies between NRM areas and other sectors in which Resonance works, including sustainable supply chains, green/blue economies, and nature-positive enterprises.


 
This is a full-time position reporting to the VP, Government Services, with travel to developing countries to support business development and project implementation activities.


 
OUTCOMES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Strategy & Business Development
  • Partner with leadership and Business Development to support and grow NRM new business by: surfacing and recommending opportunities, leading proposals, and/or serving as a proposal chief, technical lead, contributor, or reviewer, identifying and tracking relevant opportunities; leading decisions on whether to pursue NRM new business opportunities; mentoring staff; and working closely with the Business Development team and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of quality proposals.
  • Partner with the PDU and other sectors to ensure high technical impact across the portfolio, leverage and develop capabilities and resources within the broader GS team for new business efforts, and promote mechanisms for shared learning and healthy habits among project teams.
  • Achieve sector annual business development and revenue growth goals; contribute to the creation and execution of company capture plan
  • Lead strategy and design during capture and proposal development processes, providing guidance and vision to proposal teams and serving as Proposal Chief and/or technical writer
  • Lead the growth of the sector’s technical visibility with key stakeholders, practitioners, and donors with an eye towards identifying and engaging promising partners for collaboration and innovation through thought leadership activities; including, but not limited to, penning op-eds; serving as a technical panelist, and identifying topics and convening technical fora/ensuring Resonance participation in relevant fora.
 
Technical Support & Client Engagement
  • Develop, introduce, lead, and refine technical approaches, methods and tools that leverage Resonance’s service offerings (partnership/PSE, innovation, innovative finance) within the NRM sector and, those that integrate with other sectors (green/blue economies), and that align with Resonance’s mission and values
  • Oversee and deliver technical excellence across the company and ensure high client satisfaction in all NRM projects
  • Ensure that the NRM sector’s projects are environmentally compliant and implement activities in accordance with best natural resource management practices
  • Support Resonance’s thought leadership through blog posts and articles, public presentations, attending and speaking at relevant conferences, etc.
  • Develop and manage client relationships with development implementers, donor agencies, commercial customers, foundations, NGOs, and others
  • Identify, develop and uplift existing technical project tools and approaches that can be incorporated into the larger technical area
Team Leadership
  • Supervise a team of high performers with expertise in NRM and private sector engagement
  • As a member of the ELT, be emotionally intelligent and lead by example, fostering an environment that is collaborative and conducive to growth, respect, equity, and thought leadership. Lead by example and inspire staff in the sector, promoting professional development and creating a positive working environment that encourages productive relationships, creative problem-solving, and high performance.
  • Set, implement, and ensure that each team member meets strategic, long-term goals and objectives for the department
  • Lead team development, performance against strategic goals, personnel management issues, wellness and staff spotlight to promote recognition of individual and team efforts.
  • Support home office team, in-country Project Directors and Chiefs of Party, traveling to country offices to visit programs and provide support, visibility, guidance, and reinforcement where safe and appropriate.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Advanced degree in natural resource management, economics, international development, business administration, or related field
  • 12+ years of project management experience in the international development or business context
  • 10 years of business development experience, including writing technical proposals and leading proposal teams.
  • Successful track record of winning USAID and other donor-funded NRM business
  • Demonstrated track record in facilitating cross-sector collaboration, preferably for international companies, NGOs, donors or foundations operating in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and/or the Middle East
  • Experience building and leading high-performing teams
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Ability to travel up to 30% on short notice
  • Eligibility to work in US

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Fluency in French, Spanish, or Arabic preferred

This position operates in a professional office environment, and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position, sitting at a desk for prolonged periods, move or traverse inside the office and facilities; operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect, or position computers and other office equipment, such as a calculator, copy machine, furniture, and computer printer. The employee must be able to make substantial repetitive motions of the wrists, hands and fingers. The employee must be able to lift and move up to 15lbs at times.
