POSITION MANDATE
We are looking for consultants to support USAID/BHA to effectively engage the private sector (PSE) and leverage their resources and capabilities to improve humanitarian action. Possible activities include private sector landscape assessments, humanitarian response after-action reviews, supply chain analysis/mapping, partnerships brokering and co-creation that involves harnessing the private sector to support and bolster humanitarian action.
 
We are looking for both mid-level and senior-level professionals with expertise in designing and implementing efforts in one or more of the following areas:
  • Private Sector Engagement or Partnership Development
  • Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (preparedness, response, early recovery, reconstruction/ rehabilitation, and disaster risk reduction)
  • Private Sector Landscape Assessments
  • Supply Chain Management and Mapping
  • Operations and Supply Procurement
  • Circular Economy/Sustainability
  • Co-Creation Workshop Facilitation, including Market Dialogues
We are recruiting for a number of opportunities, including short-term technical assistance consultancies. Geographic areas of particular interest include:
  • Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia and the Philippines
  • Latin and Central America, especially Guatemala
  • Oceania and the Pacific
  • West Africa
 
OUTCOMES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist or lead in the development of private sector landscape assessments, partnership assessments, supply chain assessments, or other types of analyses.
  • Complete key informant interviews with private sector actors, humanitarian assistance organization actors, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Draw upon an extensive network of in-country experts and resources, as well as practical knowledge and experience.
  • Participate in, lead, or facilitate workshops and conferences as necessary, including bringing together varying groups of stakeholders.
  • Complete program design and report documents to a high standard of quality.
  • Enable and support organization in driving social, economic, and environmental impact

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree or master’s degree* (in fields including but not limited to: Disaster Management, International Relations, Development Studies, Social or Political Science, Supply Chain Management, Business and/or Non-Profit Administration, Strategic Communications).
  • Mid-level professionals will have 4+ years’ experience in one or more of the areas listed above.
  • Senior-level professional will have 8+ years of experience in one or more of the areas listed above.
  • Experience working with USAID/BHA, UN, and the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement, government and non-government humanitarian organizations and the private sector.
  • Demonstrated understanding of results-based management and impact measurement.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree (Masters).

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Experience working in the field of disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, response, early recovery, and reconstruction/ rehabilitation.
  • Relevant industry training, certification, and professional association/affiliation.
  • Experience in working in or supporting a development and/or humanitarian programming in a less developed country context is an asset.
  • Experience in leading innovations and/or organizational change management is an asset.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS
The employee must be able to travel domestically and/or internationally and up to 75% for work assignments.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position operates in a professional office environment, and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

As a part of the responsibilities for this job, the employee is required to communicate, detect, converse with, discern, convey, express oneself, and exchange information orally and in writing with others. The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position, sitting at a desk for prolonged periods, move or traverse inside the office and facilities; operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect, or position computers and other office equipment, such as a calculator, copy machine, furniture, and computer printer. The employee must be able to make substantial repetitive motions of the wrists, hands and fingers. The employee must be able to lift and move up to 15lbs at times.
 
WORK AUTHORIZATION / SECURITY CLEARANCE
Work authorization in country of residence is required.


 
 
SALARY RANGE
Salary will vary based on the experience and seniority of the candidate.
